Welcome

The Historical Society's Fall meeting will take place at the Opera House on November 11th at 2 p.m.  Our featured speaker will be Phil McDonald.  Phil will be speaking about John Yates.

John Yates was an early Jefferson County land owner whose accomplishments include the acquisition of 2000 acres in the center of the county, being instrumental in the formation of the Free School system and being a Vestryman and early benefactor of Zion Episcopal Church. Coming from England at the age of 13 to eventually inherit his uncle's vast land and business holdings John became a cornerstone of Jefferson County society.
